Handmade Gifts?

I wonder how many people still give handmade gifts for the holidays or really anytime.  I crochet and I love to give afghans.  I ‘think’ people enjoy them and I feel that they are useful gifts.  I know I am always under one when I watch TV or read.  My motto is “One can never have too many afghans!”  Of course, that’s me and I am sure not everyone feels the same.

I made a very pretty one as a Christmas gift this year.  I can’t share what kind or who since the person it is going to may read this blog.  LOL  BUT, after the holiday I will surely post a picture.

I loved when my kids were little and would make things for me.  Handmade gifts from children are very special.  I still have a poem book that my daughter made for me one birthday.  I take it out every now and again and read the poems.  It never fails to bring a smile to my face.  I also still have this pretty candle holder that my boys made for me when they were little.  It’s a baby food jar that they covered with pretty paper and it has a candle inside.  The colors are all faded now since it has to be about 15 years old but it happily lives on my window sill in the kitchen and it just as special today as it was when they gave it to me.

How do you feel about receiving a handmade gift?  Have you ever received one that was just not for you?  If you are crafty what kinds of gifts do you make?
